May 22, 2010 · What I found was in Global mode the phone will try to connect to either CDMA or GSM formats (1XEV is CDMA). Best I can figure out, and what others said was Sprint strictly uses CDMA in the US, even if roaming. So I reset from Global to 1XEV, and it has seemed to help battery life.

Here`s what the connection indicator on your Blackberry means: 1x = regular data network 1X = regular data network BB data 1xev = connected with EVDO data network 1XEV = connected with EVDO data network BB data This does not apply to phones with OS 5.0. I'm not sure why your network speed at this moment is slow--it could be due to network congestion (highly likely), but in theory, your Rev-A 1XEV is faster than any 3G.
