If cost is important to you check out a more "middle of the road" outfit like Intrepid or Peregrine. Hotel prices in China vary enormously from the supposedly 5-star down to quite acceptable 3-4 star. If you are prepared to have minor inconveniences - perhaps no bellboy; no English spoken by room service; hard bed etc I'd go with a cheaper tour company.
