It sits on acres and acres of beautifully manicured lawns and is in a gorgeous setting in the desert with mountains in the background. It's a short drive from Palm Springs. We had a wonderful docent (Lane) for our tour and he is extremely knowledgeable of the midcentury architecture and art/sculptures throughout this 200 acre magnificent estate. The landscape at Sunnylands Center & Gardens was designed by The Office of James Burnett, with horticultural consultant Mary Irish. Inspired by the Annenberg collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, the gardens were designed to reflect the importance of these paintings to the Annenbergs, who bequeathed them to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1991.
