Those things make me a little nervous, even though I know operating procedure involves precautions: There is a limit for distance when the AN/APY-1/2 is on...around 1500 horizontal and 800 vertical when the radar is on, or you will get that "burning" feeling...I remember a headstrong Navy F-18 calling judy on an a/r run and instead of rolling in behind a tanker he rolled in on the E-3.
