Ski Touring Crochues-Berard Traverse, the Berard Valley. The Crochues-Berard traverse is one of Chamonix's classic ski-tours. The access is easy from La Flegere ski area, just 3km from Chamonix town, and the ski-tour passes through the beautiful Aiguilles Rouges to end up in the village of Le Buet.

From here, descend the wonderful Berard valley to the tree line. There are countless variations which can be taken to reach the tree line. Once there, stay right of the river and ski to the hamlet of Le Buet via a good track and the occasional tricky section of tight tree skiing.

Ski Tour 1 – Breche de Bérard or “keyhole”. This is a super day tour, lesser known than the other popular tours starting from the same place. The tour is accessed from the Flegere lifts and the first of the 2 climbs takes you to the Col de Crochues via a skin and then a boot pack of 250m up. Once at the col there is a short ski down on the other side and a traverse towards the Combe d’Envers de Berard.

The First climb up can be tricky on cold days when the slope or track is icey and can be a real test of your kick turns. The skiing is realativly straightforward for the most part and you’ll often find good snow on the final ski down to Le Beut.

It’s a fairly easy tour with about 500 meters of ascent and about 1500 meters of descent.
