Blackfield is a collective music project by two musicians the Israel rock singer Aviv Geffen and the founder of Porcupine Tree Steven Winson. Geffen executed backing vocals on two tracks in the Porcupine Tree album while Wilson offered the lead vocals on all the songs; he also played guitar and piano on all songs apart from the song ‘scars’.

After years of mutual admiration, the pair were drawn together by their similar interests in the classic rock albums of the '60s and '70s and finally wound up composing their first song as Blackfield. The band debuted live in early 2004 in Israel and set out on a European tour that same year.

Blackfield is the debut album by Blackfield, released on the Snapper Music/Helicon labels in January 2004. The album was re-released in August of the same year with an additional three-track bonus disc, followed by a later pressing that contains the album and the three bonus tracks all on one CD.
