I have to disagree with Traveler Plus. As a former Contiki tour member and Royal National guest, it IS a ghastly hotel. We switched to the Imperial Hotel a block or so away. It was Contiki's "upgrade" hotel and while not anything fancy, it was clean and quiet, unlike the RN.

The tour we are looking at is actually a London "Explorer" tour which means much of the time you are on your own. They provide 4 nights in the hotel with breakfast. You would have a roommate that is also doing a Contiki tour.

My first experience with overseas travel was with Contiki, which happened to be a 10-day tour of Great Britain. It really cemented my love of London and of travel in general but it was an overall lousy experience for all the reasons that you mentioned.
