    The Tour de Wyoming kicked off for the first time in 1997. Some 45 intrepid riders gathered in Powell, Wyoming for a six-day ride that went up and over the Bighorn Mountains and finishing up in Casper. It was initially an event of the Wyoming Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness and Sport.

    The majority of riders on the Tour de Wyoming use road bikes with drop handlebars and skinny tires or gravel-type bikes with a wider tire. The range of gears is up to the individual but a triple or compact double is recommended. Mountain bikes with “slick” tires are another option. E-bikes that are pedal-assist only are allowed.
