Fort Rowner is within the perimeter of H.M.S. Sultan and is not open to the public but can be visited during Heritage open days in September of each year. Fort Brockhurst is owned and maintained by English Heritage and can only be visted by arrangement with English Heritage.

The inner part is a 2-storeyed barracks, facing a circular courtyard. A roadway passes along the axis of the keep (and of the fort), crossing the moats via drawbridges, having on each face a granite round-arched portal. The keep is surmounted by a high earthwork, which carried open-gun emplacements, allowing for fire across the parade.

A pre-arranged visit (by Carole) with personalised guided tour by WO Leon Britton based at HMS Sultan. Accompanied access to the pillar was allowed. The pillar is in good condition and guarded by three over friendly goats. Very interesting to learn the history of this and the linked fort network.
