Gibraltar Island tours are available from 10 am-12 pm and 1-3 pm. Thursdays, June 20 – August 8. Tour guides lead a walking tour of the island, including Perry’s Lookout, the glacial grooves, Stone Lab buildings, and the outside of Cooke Castle. The second hour will focus on the Lake Erie research currently being conducted at Stone Lab.

Miller Ferry : Gibraltar Island Tours

The water taxi to Gibraltar Island is $6 round-trip, payable to the boat driver. Tours are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, with a maximum of 70 people. You can also schedule a group tour April through November by calling the Stone Lab Office at 419-285-1800.

Visit Cooke Castle Ohio Sea Grant

The exterior can be viewed as part of our Gibraltar Island science and history tour. Cooke Castle on Gibraltar Island was constructed in 1864 and 1865 by civil war financier Jay Cooke. The castle was constructed using local limestone, and original carpentry work in the library and plaster features on the ceiling still remain today.
