The Lunenburg Heritage Society was formed in 1972 as a registered charity with a mission to save Lunenburg’s unique architecture. While continuing to advocate for historic building conservation, the Society has grown to preserve and promote the full diversity of Lunenburg’s cultural and natural heritage.

The fund-raising activities of the Society are a crucial part of our operation and have been tremendously successful for many years. With monies raised from these activities the Society is able to: Operate the Knaut-Rhuland House as a period history museum. Maintain the Heritage Bandstand as a focal point in “Old Town” Lunenburg.

In 2002 the Lunenburg Heritage Society assumed responsibility for the planning and organization of the Festival in collaboration with the recently formed Nova Scotia Folk Art Society. The Festival features wood and metal sculpture, memory paintings, dioramas, whirligigs, and two-dimensional art.
