This is a great chance to explore a glacier: Early season melting leaves the Root Glacier relatively snow-free by the end of May. It's easy to access, but if you've never been on a glacier, be careful—lots of people scamper up the first hill, but without the proper footwear, they can't make it back down. The Root Glacier tour is well worth the $65 or so that it costs and is a bargain if you use a 2-for-1 coupon. I think you mean the MILL tour. The "mine" tour is really a strenuous all-day mine hike. I didn't do it the same day, but I wish I did.
