In 1955 rode notably in the 1955 Tour de France where it was unheard that a track sprinter would enter, two days prior to the Tour Mockridge had a fall which resulted in injuries to his knee and forehead but this did not stop him riding. Mockridge finished the 3,830km race and was one of only 60 out of 150 entrants to finish in Paris.
