May 25, 2012 · Ok so i want to get a new drum kit and i have narrowed down my choices to the pdp m5, the Yamaha tour custom, and the Sonor Select force, all maple. Any of those better then the other or are they all relatively the same sound quality wise? I was also considering the gretsch catalinas.

Nov 19, 2009 · Yamaha Tour customs are equal to Sonor Force 3000 series. Both maple shells and excellent sounding kits. Yamaha Stage Customs and SONOR Force 2000 series are Birch and both are excellent in that catagory. What it should come down to is value.

Remember, the Tama is Birch, the Pearl is Maple, there is quite a difference between these two kits. I prefer the warmth of the maple kits but I've never been too keen on Pearl toms or hardware so I would go with the Tama Starclassic (Maple ideally) if the wood isn't what you were worried about.
