Tour de Rez – NavajoYES

The concept of the Tour de Rez originated in Shonto in 1991 and has been a summertime rez tradition each year since that time. A small, hearty group of mostly young riders from across the Navajo Nation take part in the Tour, riding and exploring remote sections of Dine’ Bikeyah, while experiencing Dine’ landscapes, history and culture from the saddle of a bike.

As a five-time Tour de Rez alumni, Myron continues to be involved in the programs and outings of NavajoYES. Myron was a key figure in the development of the Navajo Parks Race Series in the summer of 2015 and was instrumental in plotting the course for the Asaayi Mountain Runs, Rainbow Bridge Ultra and Monument Valley Marathon events.

Every year Tom Riggenbach, Director of NavajoYes (Youth Empowerment Services), leads groups of Navajo youth on the Tour de Rez, a summer-long trip that takes riders all around the Reservation. The entire Tour covers 1,200 miles, and the average rider of one week goes approximately 100 miles.
