For over 50 years, teens from rural America have been coming to Washington, D.C. on the “trip of a lifetime,” courtesy of their local sponsoring electric cooperative, their state association, and NRECA. Over the years, these delegates have toured some of the finest museums in the world and visited America’s most historic monuments.

Each summer, Morgan County REA sends one area student to the National Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. The student's journey begins with a day in Denver, touring the Capitol, Colorado Rural Electric Association and Tri-State Generation and Transmission.

Washington Youth Tour Once a year, high school students are selected by the electric cooperatives in Georgia and other states as delegates on the Washington Youth Tour. Nationally more than 1,500 students are chosen to participate. GreyStone sponsors five high school juniors from our coverage area to participate each year.

Our national association made the decision to cancel the 2020 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, which was scheduled for June 18–25 in Washington, D.C. The disruptions caused by COVID-19 are expected to persist into the summer, and – above all else – the health, safety and well being of tour delegates is everyone’s primary concern.

WASHINGTON D.C. YOUTH TOUR The NRECA Washington, D.C. Youth Tour takes place in June every year. Youth Ambassador Students on the tour learn about electric cooperatives, American history and U.S. government. The Youth Tour is available only through Eau Claire Energy Cooperative Youth Ambassador Program and is valued at $2,000 per student.
