Another idea, sometimes when you strum hard, that may have caused it. For example, you strum a note downward on the strummer, and when you release it, the strumbar returned with a little too much force, and moved a bit too far up, and counted as an extra strum. That's just an idea. Try strumming a little bit softer, see if that does anything.
